70th Republic Day Celebration Back

On the occasion of 70th Republic Day celebration, the Human Rights and Training Unit of Indian Social Institute, Bengaluru, invited Justice H N Jagamohan Das for a lecture on the Challenges before our Constitution. About 150 people attended the program, which took place in the Romero Hall, Indian Social Institute, Bengaluru on 26th January 2019.


Fr Francis D’Souza, the Administrator at ISI-B, welcomed the gathering and Dr Fr Alwyn Prakash D’Souza, Head of Human Rights and Training Unit at ISI-B, introduced the Chief Guest. Then we had the thought-provoking and challenging lecture by Justice H N Nagamohan Das, who mentioned that the constitution is not a story but a program, namely, a social, economic and political program, aimed at the progress and development of all the citizens.


Fr Joye James, Secretary of Jesuit Higher Education Association of South Asia (JHEASA) moderated the open discussion in which many participants raised important questions and Justice H N Nagamohan Das, graciously and convincingly answered them all. Ms Shanthi, Head Women’s Unit at ISI-B, proposed the vote of thanks and Ms Maria, who’s a Lecturer in the Department of Commerce at St Claret College, compered the entire program so beautifully. Ms Kanchana, Assistant in the Human Rights and Training Unit, looked into the logistics and ensured smooth running of the program.



The participants, who mostly consisted of Sisters from various congregations, a few students and some representatives of civil society organizations, were highly appreciative of the program. It was indeed a very happy and memorable Republic Day celebration.
