International Workers’ Day Celebration by Migrant Workers Back

On May Day, migrant workers from Assam and Odisha working and living in Jigani and Hebbagodi respectively came together for the first time in Anekal to celebrate the Workers’ Day.

Fr. Iggie Arulappan, along with Fr. Martin, celebrated in the Hindi mass with migrant workers with the theme ‘St. Joseph the worker and workers’ Day’. He spoke on the significance of May Day, rights of workers and the role of workers in nation building.

At the meeting, Adv. Francis Guntipilly welcomed the workers and their families to Anekal and assured all support in fight for their rights as workers in Bangalore.

Fr. Martin interacted with the workers and explained the need for organising together to fight for their rights as workers.

The workers put up a programme where they honoured Francis Guntipilly for his contributions to welfare of the workers. The workers put up a dance and sang songs to add colour to the day.

The Lunch was arranged for all the workers. The celebration was first of this type for these migrant workers.
