Peace and Reconciliation Unit

Context

The Indian Social Institute, Bangalore, launched yet another socio-educational program– Peace and Reconciliation– as part of the Jesuit Conference of South Asian Apostolic Preference towards the promotion of Peace and Solidarity in Justice. The unit was inaugurated on 2nd October 2023, contending to address the socio-political conflicts wedged by unjust social structures, unequal sharing of economic and natural resources, and disproportionate political power relations– the multiple forms of violence and historical injustice. Responding proactively, our deliberate choice is to commit ourselves to the promotion of Peace and Reconciliation through Right Educational Mediation and Social Intervention.

Why Peace & Reconciliation Praxis
  • We understand that enabling Peace within and the social world is an ongoing process entailing community formation and participation.
  • We understand that existential threats to humanly shared future is due to International-national political-conflict configurations.
  • We understand that the Pan-Indian Academic system mainly focuses on ‘Employment- Competency’, which serves the profit-interests of the privileged- privatized class and hence deprived of promoting ‘Social-Competency,’ which alternatively urges the need to ‘re-conceptualize’ Education as Transformative Pedagogy for enabling peace loving humane community.

  • Inter-Cultural Faith Traditions and Ecumenical- Scriptural Hermeneutics.
