Through the “Women and Mother Earth” program, the Kannur Zone successfully empowered youth with knowledge and awareness, equipping them with the tools to become champions for gender equality and environmental conservation. The combination of theoretical learning, real-life experiences, and open discussions made this capacity-building program a holistic and enriching experience.
The Kannur Zone started their fifth module from September 22nd to 24th, 2023, was a testament to the importance of nurturing a generation of environmentally conscious and socially aware individuals. By addressing critical issues like gender inequality and environmental conservation, the program has contributed to building a brighter, more equitable future. It is hoped that the lessons learned during this program will inspire positive actions and transformative change in the community and beyond
Saniya, a student, shared, “The Capacity-building training program has played a significant role in helping me overcome my fears. The content of this fifth module is also quite interesting and valuable”.
Shijin expressed “I knew about transgenders but my understanding of them was not very clear. However, after the learning about transgenders I was able to gain a deeper insight into the difficulties and struggles they face in their lives. It was an eye-opening experience that allowed me to empathize with their challenges and appreciate the importance of raising awareness and supporting their rights”.
Aleena Babu emphasized, “The protection of women from Domestic Violence Act 2005 has been instrumental in not only protecting women but also in raising awareness about their rights. Through this act, we have gained a better understanding of the struggles and difficulties that women often face within their own homes. It has provided a legal framework that empowers women to seek justice and protection from abusive situations. Moreover, it has sparked important conversations about gender equality and the need for a society where women can live free from violence and discrimination. This act has played a vital role in advancing women’s rights and fostering safer environment for all.
The Kannur Zone youth training program marked a significant milestone with the participation of 23 enthusiastic dalit youth. The capacity building training module focused on women and mother earth not only empowered these young individuals but also underlined the importance of their role in fostering a more inclusive and sustainable future. To me, equality is ideal. To fulfil this ideal every human must be considered valuable and provided with the same opportunity’’, said Sr Lilly JMJ.
