The three-day training program was organized from 27th to 29th December 2023 by Social Inclusion & Democracy Unit of Indian Social Institute Bengaluru, in collaboration with Kairos, Susthira, Cultural Research and action, (NKDCF) North Kerala Dalit Christian Federation. 25 Youth participated (11 Male & 14 Female). Unique aspect of the program involved field exposure to the local panchayat. Participants had the privilege of interacting with the President and members, who graciously responded during a special session. This practical exposure provided a good knowledge during the training.
Alphin Abraham participant said, “The program bridged the gap between theory and practice by making the concepts we learned more relatable. Being part of the Panchayat Raj helped us realise the importance of community involvement and how it directly affects people’s lives”.
Linda, Aleena, Aibin ,Niviya all expressed, “Overall , this program has equipped us with the knowledge and motivation to actively engage in local governance. We feel empowered to contribute to our communities and advocate for inclusive and sustainable development in our communities. This experience has undoubtedly been a stepping stone towards fostering a deeper connection between the youth and the Panchayat Raj System. We look forward to applying what we have learned and making a positive impact in our respective villages”.
Sr Lilly JMJ, the facilitator said, this transformative experience has not only equipped the youth with the tools to drive positive change but has also inspired them to take on leadership roles within their respective communities. The impact of the programme extends beyond the three day events, as these individuals continue to collaborate, implement and advocate for sustainable development initiatives in their communities.
