The three-day training program organised by Indian Social Institute, Bengaluru on Self and Society had a profound impact on 40 young trainees who became aware of their role in family and society. Through the workshop, the young youth engaged individually and in group reflecting on their strengths, weaknesses, and dreams for one self and society. This process of knowing oneself and society helped the participants develop self-awareness, self-confidence, self-esteem and leadership attitudes.
Mr. Syam Babu, youth coordinator said, “I want to support education of my siblings in my family”. Syam is convinced of the value of education for a better future. Motivated by the training, Rahul Pranith, NEET aspirant wants to start a community clean-up drive in his place. He believes in the care for the environment. A clean environment ensures a happy life to the humanity. Deepika said, “I want to help my family by starting a small business, and encourage women in my village to take up income generating activity for a sustainable living”. Another youth, Aruna s aims to organize educational workshops for children in her village. She wants to promote in them knowledge and skills.
Dr. S. Malleswara Rao and FR. Anthaiah, SDB, the resource persons, motivated the youth to develop a positive self for personal growth. They also emphasized the importance of building unity in the community for addressing social issues. At the end of the training, the youth expressed that they are inspired to develop social ethics and moral values in them.
As a facilitator, I feel happy and inspired to see that the youth have developed a sense of responsibility towards their community. 21 Male and 19 female participants actively participated in the training.
