The three-day training on Participation and Accountability, organized by the Indian Social Institute, Bengaluru, developed leadership skills among 35 young participants about the structure, functions, and importance of Panchayati Raj Institutions. The sessions created awareness about the 73rd Constitutional Amendment, which gives power and recognition to village-level governance. Participants understood that Panchayati Raj allows people to elect their own leaders, take part in decisions, and promote democratic values. They felt proud that the Constitution gives people decision making power.

Sudha from CSST NGO shared that true development happens when villagers work together. It’s not just about building roads or houses but about understanding what people really need. When everyone joins meetings and plans together, the results are better and more meaningful.

Enthusiastic youth, Leelavathi from PSO NGO said, youth must play an important role in Gram Sabha and Ward Sabha meetings. When young people attend these meetings, they can share ideas, raise issues, and ask how funds are used. Their participation makes the Panchayat more transparent, accountable, and people-friendly.

Srinivas said that the session helped them see how the Panchayat supports SC, ST, and OBC communities through various programs like housing schemes, education scholarships, small business loans, and MGNREGA jobs. These initiatives aim to reduce poverty and promote equal development for everyone.

The youth visited the Gram Panchayat and observed how the Sarpanch and officials keep records, plan development activities, manage funds, and implement government schemes for the welfare of villagers. They explored, the role of youth associations in organizing awareness programs, attending Gram Sabha meetings, and assisting in scheme implementation.

The energy and ideas of youth can bring innovation, accountability, and change in local governance.

The resource persons, Mr. Jagadesh, Mr. Srinivasa Rao, Mr. K.Chandra & Mr. B. Nagarjuna appreciated the enthusiasm of the youth. They said when young people involve themselves in planning and monitoring, the governance becomes more open, democratic, and effective. They encouraged the youth to become change-makers who inspire others to build a better village and stronger democracy.
