A three-day capacity building on ‘Understanding and Reducing Vulnerabilities’ transformed the lives of 26 youth in Andhra Pradesh. Their inspiring narrative became a beacon of hope, illuminating a path for countless individuals and communities to overcome their vulnerabilities and shape a brighter future for themselves and those around them.

M. Prasad, a determined final-year degree student, realized the urgent need to address the vulnerabilities faced by the youth in his village. Prasad aims to establish a comprehensive training program tailored to the specific needs of youth in Godavari District. Through this program, he envisions equipping them with essential knowledge, skills, and resilience to overcome challenges. Prasad’s passion lies in uplifting his community, and he believes that empowering the youth is the key to bringing about positive and sustainable change.

Sarika, Degree student, consistently demonstrates her dedication by actively participating in the training programs. She recognizes the significance of empowering young girls and women who face multiple challenges and vulnerabilities in the village. Through her participation, Sarika has gained invaluable insights into gender-based issues, honed her communication skills, and developed strong leadership abilities. Her commitment and passion are catalysts for positive change, inspiring others to join the cause and create a more equitable and inclusive community.

K. Challa Rao Degree 2nd year student says, he has realized the importance of understanding the root causes of vulnerabilities of people. Through guidance from Indian Social Institute Bengaluru, he wants to dedicate himself to research and data analysis, uncovering insights into the issues of poverty, lack of education, and unemployment that contribute to vulnerability. Challa Rao aims to raise awareness about the Prevention of Atrocities (POA) Act in his workplace, empowering individuals with knowledge to address gender-based vulnerabilities effectively. By sharing this information, he seeks to create a safer and more supportive environment for all.

Blessy, a compassionate and creative Degree 1st year student from Government College, Ravulapalem says, she wants to harnesses the power of arts and storytelling to raise awareness about vulnerabilities. She plans to implement her knowledge by organizing engaging theatre performances, music events, and visual arts exhibitions that highlight the importance of addressing social issues with the support of the organizations. Through these impactful mediums, Blessy aims to captivate the villagers’ hearts, spark meaningful conversations, and inspire them to take action towards positive change. Her creative initiatives serve as a catalyst for spreading awareness and fostering a sense of agency within the community.

As a facilitator, Adv Karuna Rao expressed his genuine happiness and pride in their success, emphasizing the transformative journey they have embarked upon and foster a supportive and encouraging environment during training sessions, allowing them to freely express their ideas and concerns.

This training was held at PARA, Ravulaplem, Andhra Pradesh from 4-6 July 2023 by Social Inclusion and Democracy Unit of Indian Social Institute Bengaluru in collaboration with Peoples Action for Rural Awakening (PARA), Ravulapalem, Women Association for Gender Equality (WAGE) Ravulapalem and Samatha Vidya Vyasaya Abhivridhi Samkshema Sangam (SVASS) Alamuru.
