Inspired to serve, 31 youth resolved to protect environment through beach clean-ups and safeguarding natural resources such as water conservation through daily practices.

The 3 day capacity building equipped the youth with knowledge on gender equality, environmental protection and sustainable future in Module V, ‘Women and Mother Earth’ training. Indian Social Institute Bengaluru in collaboration with Loyola Extension Service, Blue Point, Cherureshmi, and IRT Organization organised the programme at Loyola Extension Services, Sreekaryam, Trivandrum. 31 vibrant youth became aware of the role of women in families and communities; sustainable living practices for Environmental protection, and the law on Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005. Their eyes were opened to learn and respect sexual minorities as they discussed the challenges faced by these communities.

As the participants mainly from fisher-folk community, the leadership role of women in fisher-folk community was shared. It inspired them very much to see how women play an important role in the decision making. Daniya shared her perspective, stating, ‘The insights gained from the environmental movements in India have left a profound impact on me. Witnessing the unwavering commitment of those who have worked tirelessly to safeguard our natural resources has ignited a sense of hope and determination within me. I am now motivated to take small but meaningful steps, mobilize my community, and lend my voice to the cause of environmental conservation. This training has sparked a fire within me, and I am eager to play my part as a change maker for the betterment of our Mother Earth.'”

“Beena, a BSC student, highlights the often undervalued roles of women within her family and community, especially in caregiving. She discerns a profound link between ‘Women and Mother Earth,’ identifying the potential for women to become guardians of our planet.

Sr.Lilly, State Facilitator commended the youth for their deep understanding of the inequalities affecting society and the environment and motivated them to become change agents in contributing to the welfare of the marginalised.
