“This training helped me understand how gender justice and care for nature are deeply connected. It has changed the way I see my role as a young person in building a just and sustainable society” – Liju, one of the participant.

The three-day youth capacity building program aimed to strengthen young people’s understanding of gender justice, women’s rights, and ecological responsibility through participatory and experiential learning. Dr. Rajiv facilitated critical discussions on women’s social exclusion, patriarchal structures, and gender stereotypes, using debates and creative presentations to deepen participants’ understanding of gender-based discrimination and equality.

Sessions led by Mr. Justin J. focused on sexual minorities and transgender communities, clarifying the distinction between sex and gender and highlighting the social challenges and welfare mechanisms relevant to sexual minorities, fostering inclusive and rights-based perspectives.

Environmental awareness formed a key component of the module, facilitated by Mr. Jobi Kondoor, Master Trainer at Loyola Extension Services. Through discussions on ecological ethics and a guided nature walk within the Loyola campus, including visits to the Miyazaki Forest and Butterfly Park, participants engaged with issues of biodiversity and sustainable living.

The program concluded with reflection and evaluation, where participants expressed increased awareness, sensitivity, and commitment towards promoting gender justice and environmental stewardship in their communities. The training strengthened their capacity to act as socially responsible and environmentally conscious youth leaders.
