“I am deeply influenced by the ideologies and principles of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and Thanthai Periyar. The contribution of two great leaders to the empowerment and transformation of marginalized communities is remarkable”, says Binu Josephine from Trichy.

Antony Rabin Akash said, “Dr. Ambedkar and Thanthai Periyar are the iconic leaders for social justice, equality, and rationalism”.

The three day capacity building training program on Module IV on ‘Understanding and Reducing the Vulnerabilities’ was organised in Trichy and Salem Zones by Social Inclusion and Democracy unit of Indian Social Institute-Bengaluru. It was a self-transformative experience to 32 (Male-21 and Female-11) youth of Trichy zone which was held in collaboration with TNBC commission for SC/ST, DCMSSS and RCDC Trust

In Salem zone 58 youths (Male-7 and Female-51) attended the training organised in collaboration with RWD Trust, ASAD Trust and HOME Trust.

A participant of RWD Trust of Salem zone said, “Learning about the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes-Prevention of Atrocities Act 1989 (PoA Act) has made a significant impact on me. Now, I know how to protect my community through legal interventions whenever they are subjected to caste atrocities”. PoA Act is designed to protect the rights and dignity of marginalized communities in India, specifically the Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST), who are facing discrimination and oppression.

The training helped youth understand vulnerabilities of the marginalised communities. Group discussions on constitutional provisions and protection of vulnerable people made the youth gain knowledge. The spirited youth after the training prepared an action plan to identify livelihood, social, political problems of the marginalised in their communities and collectively participate in fighting for their rights.
