The Indian Social Institute, Bengaluru conducted a three-day youth training aimed at educating and empowering rural youth on the theme “Women and Mother Earth” The primary goal was to build awareness among youth about their rights as citizens. This capacity-building training focused on enabling young participants to critically reflect and understand the challenges faced by women and emphasise on the equality and dignity. Mr Janardhan Kesargaddhe, spoke on saving the Earth by addressing the danger of using non-biodegradable things such as Plastics, Pesticides, use of harmful inorganic chemicals etc. He said, it causes 52 types of Cancer to the human beings. This was great awareness and a learning for the youth to focus on their daily living life style. Mr Manjunath Kudari another resource person spoke on women’s rights. He emphasised on women’s unique role in family and their contributions to the society as leaders.
Speaking on the Hindu Code bill, Mr Ramchandra Kaller explained about woman’s right to property with an equal share emphasising the equal opportunities for both men and women. He also spoke on Domestic violence Act 2005. He mentioned the present sufferings of women facing harassment and humiliation despite the law.
A young participant, Sanjana participant expressed her gratitude for the knowledge she gained from the workshop on Environment and Gender Equality. She said, I will avoid using plastics or chemicals in my daily living. Overall, the training enlightened the youth to become aware of different issues on Environment and Gender.
