The three-day training program was organized from 10th to 12th November 2023, by Social Inclusion & Democracy Unit of Indian Social Institute Bengaluru, in collaboration with Loyola Extension Services, Cheruresmi, Blue point Organisation and The Kerala RTI Collective. 34 Youth participated (20 Male & 14 Female). The youth were empowered and encouraged to actively participate in local governance processes (Panchayat meetings) and voice their opinions and issues that directly affect them and their communities.
Vipin Tony, participant said, “Sessions on Panchayath Raj deepened his understanding of grassroots democracy through the lens of Gram Sabha. This knowledge provided him insights into the fundamental principles of local self-governance and the role of community participation in decision-making.”.
Lima Sunil expressed, “I am inspired and encouraged to engage in the process of local governance. Participating in the Gram Sabha meetings could motivate young individuals to actively contribute to shaping the future of our communities”.
Sr Lilly JMJ, the facilitator said, “My experience was not just informative but profoundly inspiring to see the collective commitment of the youth to participate in the betterment of their community. This module has undoubtedly left a lasting impact on our youth fostering a sense of responsibility and empowerment among the youth from marginalized backgrounds.
