One of the participants of the medical camp, Mr. Sanjit Ekka expressed his innermost feelings and said, “As we are from the working class, we are least bothered about our health. To survive, we need money, and to earn money we have to work. Our survival is from hand to mouth. We struggle to pay room rent, and fulfilling the needs of children, especially paying for their education, clothing, etc. It is not that we want to neglect health, we have other pressing needs to be addressed. This medical camp helped me and my family to know our health conditions, free of cost. I would like to express my gratitude to the doctors and organizers for arranging the mass in Hindi and simultaneously conducting the medical camp. Together with spiritual food, we have come to know about our health status. I appreciate the kind gesture of the doctor who listened patiently and was ready to help us.”

Muktilata Horo added, “This was the first medical camp I have ever attended. In Goa, no one is bothered about us, but priests and sisters have a soft corner for us. I am a domestic worker and a single parent of two children. I have to compromise my health issues and undergo physical pain and hardships to earn our daily bread. This camp helped me to know my HB level, blood sugar, and blood group, which I was unaware of and had never been tested. I am thankful to the medical team for giving us free treatment and free medicines.”

The half-day programme for interstate workers had 107 participants, out of which 40 were children and 67 were adults (53 women and 14 men). Medicines were provided free of cost according to the health issues and problems of the patients. At the end of the programme, Fr. Heston Ferrao, the chaplain of St. Lawrence Chapel Arossim, said, “It is a great job and a good initiative of humanitarian assistance through migrant ministry. With the help of the Indian Social Institute Bangalore, we are able to make a difference in the life of people who come across our centre. I thank Sr. Phileshin for taking efforts to coordinate the camp and health awareness.”
