National Seminar on “Building a Culture of Reconciliation and Peace in India”

Deriving its inspiration from the UN theme for International Day of Peace 2024 on ‘Cultivating a Culture of Peace’, Indian Social Institute, Bengaluru, in collaboration with National Council for Reconciliation and Peace (NCRP), Loyola Institute of Peace and International Relations (LIPI), Kochi, and Catholic Religious of India (CRI), Frazer Town, is organising a National Seminar on “Building a Culture of Reconciliation and Peace in India” on the auspicious day of Gandhi Jayanti, 2nd October, 2024, from 9.30 am to 1.00 pm.

In a world with rising geopolitical tensions, protracted conflicts in India on the grounds of caste, ethnicity, race, religion, region, language, natural resources and gender have torn communities apart. There is an urgent need for reconciliation and the promotion of values of respect for life, human rights and fundamental freedoms; non-violence, dialogue and cooperation; commitment to peaceful settlement of conflicts; and adherence to freedom, justice, democracy, tolerance, solidarity, cooperation, pluralism, cultural diversity, dialogue and understanding at all levels of society.

The programme will include an inaugural session with felicitation and address of the Auxiliary Bishop of Bangalore, Rev. Joseph Susainathan, who will release the book “The Kingdom of God in India” by Acharyasri Sachidananda Bharathi, the convenor of NCRP. The special guest, Mr. Shereyar Vakil will also address the gathering. In the second session, the speakers in the panel discussion will include prominent peace practitioners such as Dr. Binoy Jacob SJ, Mr. Muralidhar Koteshwar, Dr. Nayeemullah Khan and Ms Halima Sadiya.

On Gandhi Jayanti 2024, International Day of Non-Violence and the first anniversary of the Peace and Reconciliation Unit at Indian Social Institute, Bangalore, this National Seminar hopes to build an alliance of peace practitioners to spread the message of reconciliation and peace throughout the country.
