‘Women and Mother Earth’ module training for a 45 young trainers in PARA, Ravulapalem, Andhra Pradesh had a tremendous impact. They delved deep into concepts of gender equality, legal frameworks like The Domestic Violence Act of 2005, and a resolute commitment to environmental responsibility through awareness of Sustainable Development Goal 13. The transformation was remarkable, leaving these participants significantly more resilient and prepared to tackle life’s challenges, showcasing the power of focused training in a short timeframe.
Saroja said, her newfound understanding of the significance of SDG 13 in addressing global and local impact of climate change, including sustainable living and economic benefits. She recognized her role in excessive electricity use and how simple actions like unplugging chargers and using sunlight align with SDG 13, reducing emissions could save our environment. Also, water use and reduce of food wastage would benefit the environment and support local food systems.
Venkanna Babu, Cluster Coordinator from PARA, highlighted Ambedkar’s ground-breaking Hindu Code Bill, which challenged entrenched patriarchy and championed equal property rights for women. He emphasized Ambedkar’s belief that economic empowerment was crucial for achieving gender equality, as the bill aimed to end financial dependence and unequal inheritance, reshaping societal norms for more balanced resource distribution.
Vasanthi said, the significance of the Domestic Violence Act of 2005 as a comprehensive response to address domestic abuse, recognizing it as a severe human rights violation. She said, it sends a resolute societal message against all forms of violence towards women, urging them to seek assistance for justice.
Prameela, the WAGE coordinator, enthusiastically praises remarkable women leaders like Indira Gandhi, Sushma Swaraj, and Mary Kom who shattered barriers, inspiring youth to achieve through determination regardless of gender.
Adv Karuna Rao, state facilitator said, the impact of youth capacity building reaffirms everyone’s voice matters, rights are honoured, and our precious Mother Earth is treasured.
This training was held at PARA, Ravulaplem, Andhra Pradesh from 30th September till 02nd October 2023 as part of the program of Social Inclusion and Democracy Unit of Indian Social Institute Bengaluru in collaboration with Peoples Action for Rural Awakening (PARA), Ravulapalem, Women Association for Gender Equality (WAGE) Ravulapalem and Samatha Vidya Vyasaya Abhivridhi Samkshema Sangam (SVASS) Alamuru.
